Well, we're off on the
first of our summer camping
trips to see our nearby
national parks.
Unfortunately someone
forgot to tell the weatherman
it was spring!
We headed south for Bryce
Canyon. We camped at
a nearby KOA. and when
we arrived at about 6am
on Friday morning, it
was snowing!!
Fortunately we were in
Kamping Kabin.
We headed on up to the
park anyway,
and actually it was a
treat to see the park in
the snow. It doesn't
usually happen at this
time of year and when
it does in the winter
it's so cold the roads
freeze and they close them.
So, I guess we were lucky
(and cold).
To get to Bryce Canyon
from our campground, or from
anywhere I guess, you
first drive through Red Rocks State Park
which is really beautiful
in it's own right.
The snow wasn't so bad
down there, but after driving
through the two red tunnels
and up to the canyon
the higher we went the
worst the snow was!
The second day we did
manage to get a few
pictures with some sunshine
when the
clouds parted periodically.
Here we are at the main
entrance to the park.
There's lots of pictures
of hoodoos, arches
and SNOW!
For traffic control,
they ask you to drive all the way
to the end of the canyon
and then stop
at all the lookouts on
the way back, because they're
all on the right side
that way.
So naturally we started
at the highest point,
and therefore the most
snow.
But the pictures are
still quite beautiful!
