In Hawaii there are many kinds
of hula.
There's the stuff you see
in tourist places,
that really doesn't have a
lot to do with hula at all.
That would be like the show
on Capt. Bean's
Dinner Cruise.
Then there's the kind you see
in tourist places
that's more like the modern
hula of the
real hula halaus. We enjoyed
this at the
Kona Village Resort, though
the
pictures aren't so good due
to the dark stage.
Or the wonderful ritual every
evening at the
Ilikai in Honolulu where we
spent 2 days.
It begins with the hula show,
followed by the
blowing of the conch, then
the lighting of the torches.
Then finally, there is the
ancient hula.
We were fortunate to be there
on a day when
there was a special presentation
at the
Volcano National Park.
