We're headed off for the
Fourth of July weekend.
Final destination, the
southern Oregon coast.
Our first night we made
it as far as Klamath Falls, Ore.
We stayed at the Motel
6 there, and had a
wonderful breakfast at
the Black Bear Restaurant.
They're all over Oregon
and N. California,
and the food is great and
service is freindly!
The next morning as we
headed out, we
were treated to a great
view of Mount Shasta.
And there were beautiful
wild flowers all along the way!
And David found his own
private lake, or so the sign said.
We finally got to the KOA
which was actually
between Port Orford and
Bandon in the late afternoon,
but it was a lovely drive
through the forest and
we just cruised along with
our tunes from our new
XM radio!! Satelite is
great if you're doing a lot
of driving out west!

That night after our wonderful
barbeque steak dinner,
we headed for the beach
at Port Orford,
all bundled up and with
extra blankets, to
watch the fireworks. It
was actually quite cold and the
wind was really whipping.
But the firworks, shot off
from a big rock out in
the ocean, were spectacular.
And as a bonus, we could
see in the distance the
fireworks display at Gold
Beach about 20 miles down the coast.
Our first day we decided
to drive north up to
Bandon, where we had lunch
on the docks, great
fish and clams! Then we
drove on up to Coos Bay.
It was a gorgeous drive
and at Coos Bay we went
to an oyster farm and bought
fresh oysters right
out of the water and took
them home with us
and cooked them on the
grill for dinner! YUMMY!!!
The port of Bandon
The Coquille Lighthouse
The oyster beds in Coos Bay, and the sand dunes
Beaches in Bandon-it was very nippy here!
The next day we headed south
to Port Orford and
Gold Beach. First we stopped
at Cape Blanco State Park.
The beautiful old lighthouse
there is extremely interesting.
It is on of the only functioning
lighthouse with a
mantle type light in it.
We climbed up to the top
to see the light, it
is really huge. And the
view was spectacular.
As we headed on south,
the fog was rolling in.
But we had a good time
just looking around.
Gold Beach was fun, we
went to the River Museum there.
Had lunch at the Porthole
Restaurant on the docks--very good!
Headed back to the camp
for a relaxing dinner,
and a video! We love this
life!

View of the port, boats in the fog, and crab traps.
David on the beach, a coumarant in the fog.
More fog moving in.
Driftwood on the beach.
On our way home we drove
through Crater Lake National Park.
It was really beautiful
and the history was amazing!

On our way out of the park
we drove along
a highway with a beautiful
mountain river along the side.
At one point there was
an observation point to watch the
steelhead trout. There
were lots of people fishing there,
and huge trout were jumping
everywhere in the water.
We stayed and watched in
awe for about 20 minutes,
but no one caught a fish.
Not a lucky day for the fishermen.
